What GOOD framing looks like. How to present a pitch as a catcher.
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
Every catcher wanting to be good should watch the whole video. There's gold in there. Receiving is about getting your pitcher ALL the strike calls he should get. It's not about framing pitches that are not strikes to be called strikes. It's not about stealing strikes, although, it can and does occur, that should NOT be the mindset of the catcher. He should be thinking about how to present the p...

    I was warned about throwing my batt in a couple of games as a kid, I understood the rule I never did it on purpose but I was doing the same thing this kid does, I would hit the ball and throw the bat in the same swing just gotta learn to hold onto the bat whether you hit the ball or not and let it go after

    I'm sorry, but as a youth coach, and per the rules this is not an out. It is a dead ball, batter is out.

    I don't get this rule. If the batter swings and misses on strike 3 then he is out. Period. It doesn't matter if the catcher catches it, how many outs there are or who's on first. KISS.

    With this kind of baseball, you must call strikes. If you don’t, you will be there all day, and I am sure they have a time limit. It just makes bad baseball.

    As the fair-or-foul question was presented initially by the narrator, the correct response would be insufficient information to make that determination. In this instance, it was only after the catcher grabbing the batted ball that a fair-or-foul ruling could be made.

    The real question is why did Little League start to allow May 1st kids when it used to be August first. Why does Travel allow and reward over age kids by birthday to play with their grade. That took the mind of an idiot to reward the kids getting held back with xtra time. Sorry you’re 19 before May your senior year. No U18.

    If this is really high school, this is some low-level stuff and you are wrong here. These pitchers are absolutely horrible and blaming the umpire for the pitchers' lack of performance is pathetic. The NFHS would absolutely not support any umpire to expand the zone like you are asking. Expanding the zone does many negative things. First, it makes the umpire inconsistent. You are asking him to have a floating zone. I can't see the parents or you liking a zone like that. It's obvious you just want to go home and not be there coaching your kids on ADJUSTMENT, which is literally what baseball is mainly about. You should have been telling your pitcher to drop his butt, stay over the ball, and drive through the pitch. Instead, I see them aiming like he's throwing a dart, looking like garbage and you concentrating on the umpire instead of your kids. Secondly, the batters would have no clue what the zone was. You would see crazier swings at pitches way out of the zone which could lead to more backswing and catcher's interferences. Both of those incidences are potentially very dangerous for the catcher. Finally, expanding the zone would make it unsafe for the batter. Now you will have batters crowding the plate to cover the pitch two or three balls off the plate that is now called a strike. Then the pitcher busts them in. What could go wrong? Furthermore, it has been my experience, that expanding the zone does not help the game time, because then instead of these sorry pitchers nibbling on the corners and missing, now they are nibbling three balls off the plate and missing. As far as you go, a real HS umpire would not tolerate any banter like this across the field. I'd be dumping you for sure and anyone else who wanted to make the game about me, arguing balls and strikes. I'd let the state figure out the fine and suspension, but you would 100% be done that moment you screamed across the field at me about balls and strikes. There is literally no faster way to get ejected, especially in HS where unsportsmanlike conduct is not ever tolerated. I've umpired every level from pro stuff to pinto and did HS for 15 years and there wouldn't be much back and forth like with this guy. Furthermore, if I were the umpire association who has to deal with you, I would send an email to the state to document you downloading this to youtube and arguing and complaining about an umpire's strike zone. You are still, years later, inciting parents and players against this umpire. I'd do my best to get you suspended or fired for this. This is not appropriate behavior for a coach to post this if you truly are a HS coach and in my state you would get consequences for this. The saddest thing is, you and parents behaving like that often results in a player getting ejected because they think they can say something too. I've seen it happen dozens of times. If you and the other coach want a huge zone, you both go to the umpire discreetly and tell him his zone is great and the pitching is horrible... then ask, saying both coaches are on board. Don't show your rear across the field and escalate the situation. Then hope he does it and can be sort of consistent which is virtually impossible. Here's the thing though... you have to adamantly back up the umpire on every call after that... again.. you asked for it.

    2 things here. 1, the non head coach should have been tossed immediately for yelling out at the ump. And 2, the spectator, what looks to be pretty far away, would have no clue if the ball past over the plate. This is 100% poor coaching, and I really hope the kids know this. Lots of better ways to handle this. Ok, 3 things, the strike zone is 17 inches unless stated differently in your leagues rule book. Yes, any part of the ball can cross that zone, but it is not 24 inches. If you want that changed talk with the group that makes the rules, not the ump following them.

  • @MrWolverine46
    @MrWolverine46 13 дней назад

    So during the pre game meeting with the Ump at the plate with both coaches you couldn’t have discussed it then if you knew it was an issue with this Ump? If your league rules define a wider strike zone then you have a valid argument. But if you would have pulled this passive aggressive crap in me as an Umpire, that strike zone would have been MLB tight. Since you disrespected the Umpire like that…..what did you expect.

    OK - not mentioned in the video - What about an uncaught third strike situation with a full count? Batter doesn't swing. Catcher has nothing to lose by dropping the ball (even on purpose) to try to get the force out in the force out situation when the correct call is ball four and a free pass to first. Batter appears out at first, and also looks like he agrees that the pitch was in fact a strike because the batter ran. Umpire needs to overrule everybody and declare the runner safe on the walk.

    It's actually an easy play, you always go for the lead runner unless you're up by a lot of runs. If you see him going to third simply abandon the play to first and go to third, we do this by the first basement leaving the bag before the ball arrives and throwing to third. This is why you only ever see this play in lower levels of ball.

  • @67L48
    @67L48 22 дня назад

    You don't specify a rule book, so I'll use NFHS rules as my guide: 1) Out. After the tag attempt and the base path established, I don't believe the runner took that path and deviated more than 3'. 2) Safe. Looked like he beat the throw, but I could be wrong on this one. 3) Out by a half step ... but, again, I could be wrong. 1 was the most obvious one for me. 2 and 3 were coin flips.

    MJH, you have it totally wrong. In OBR when a runner who is being played upon is obstructed the play is dead immediately and the runner is awarded the next base. This is Type 2 obstruction. Type 1 obstruction is when a runner who is not being played upon is obstructed. THAT is when the play is allowed to continue and the umpire can make a ruling that will nullify the act of obstruction. I suggest you subscribe to Close Call Sports and listen to Lindsey. She is fantastic.

Plenty of guys available this time of year for at least the World Series Brackets and pay them for at least travel and per diem. Little League World Series is the best of the best Worldwide with hapless volunteer uneducated umpires effecting the game yearly. Unjust and ridiculous / Embarrasing that LL can’t solve their only real problem that they have year after year in this tournament.
